I have a new found love of Thai food in last year, thanks in part to Chaophraya. The restaurant itself is elegant and the staff are friendly and attentive. I've made reservations on every occasion that I've been and I recommend you do the same, as it suddenly gets very busy and you may be disappointed if you do not plan in advance. The food is delicate and none of the spices they use are over powering. You can taste the flavours of your dish and everything compliments each other. The duck dishes are so tender and juicy that I can honestly say it's the best I've ever eaten.

Great local favourite! Went here with some clients and had a great dinner. Fantastic food in a great atmosphere. Really liked the menu although I've only had the tofu pad Thai. It's so good I have to keep getting

This is just the most beautiful restaurant. Walk up to the entrance and with each step you get a little closer to heaven. Golden Buddhas, beautiful staff in crisp uniforms, huge silver platters, a well ordered airy space, a shiny almost art deco bar and glorious hunks of carved wood greet your eye and make your insides smile. The service is impeccable, nothing is too much trouble. There are clearly subtly defined serving areas but, unlike a lot of restaurants, the staff moving between one 'zone' and another don't shuffle past with their heads down but pay full attention and respond to whoever is trying to catch their eye. You are made to feel valued, important and special. And let's face it Yelpers, everyone should have a place to go where they feel valued, important and special...even if it's just the Sunday £10 a head buffet. And it was the Sunday £10 a head buffet that I attended last weekend, along with the best team imaginable to really test Chaophraya's mettle: An elderly lady from Otley, an IT professional with a beard/ waist length hair and a passion for causing himself actual physical pain with the hottest chillis on the menu, his younger brother visiting from Saudi where the customer is king, that chap's lovely Malay-Chinese wife with a passion for cooking and wide knowledge of all the dishes/ingredients on offer, their sleepy 3 year old son and a starving slightly drunk Meato-saurus (Me). If ever a gang gathered around the table with the widest possible range of tastes and needs known to God or Man it was us. We were seated quickly, drinks came fast and we joined the small queue for food. I, naturally, made a grab for Zintra, wanting to absorb her knowledge and (more importantly) avoid being floored by anything too hot as I am a complete and utter chilli weed. I think it's always a good sign when a Malay-Chinese lady whoops with delight at the spread so I followed her lead and was guided though succulent lightly spiced chicken, warm and sweet duck salad, beautifully subtle mussels, rich green curry, crispy beef....soft and yielding noodles.....sticky and creamy coconut rice.......I could go on and on and on. Everything on my plate was cooked to perfection, a hard job with a buffet, especially with seafood. I noticed serving dishes on the buffet were small, allowing them to be taken up and replaced quickly and avoiding anything sitting and 'stewing' for any length of time. This did mean some plates were empty at the first visit but maintained the quality of the food on offer and it's no hassle to pick small and go back often to see what has popped up. Every one of us found something we could really enjoy and I think that speak volumes considering the wide range of tastes our table represented. The only thing I tried that I really couldn't get my head around, and neither could Zintra, was the cubes of bright pink 'fried noodles'. These looked a LOT like rice krispie squares and although being served alongside the savoury dishes they were so tooth-achingly sweet that they added absolutely nothing but distraction from the other tastes on offer. Unless you have a habit of pouring sugar on your beef I'd just avoid them as it does take a while for the taste to leave your palate and everything tastes a little weird for a good ten minutes afterwards. The puddings were lovely light little pancakes filled with a creamy subtle custard- I can't remember exactly what the leaves were that Zintra told us made the green colouring and gave the hint of flavour but I think it was something like 'Pandang'. We poured the coconut milk and diced banana mix over our pancakes and topped it all with fresh fruit. After the heady flavours and spice combinations of the savoury dishes this was the absolute perfect desert. A hint of sweetness but not cloying at all and the fruit was perfectly ripe with good bite to it. I've been to Chaophraya for an evening meal a few times and never ever been disappointed in any aspect so I was suitably delighted to take on the sometimes risky lunch buffet menu and find nothing was any less special than eating there in the evenings. Thoroughly recommended...and they even whisked up an off menu ice cream sundae desert for our small boy contingent. Perfect.

Been here twice this year, once around Christmas and once a few weeks ago. Both times the place was extremely busy, the restaurant is decorated nicely. It is a bit packed together in places, can be a bit difficult to get in and out. And when really busy boy is it packed. The first time I went 5 of us really enjoyed the food that came out. It was very tasty. I would have given it 5/5 on that night. The second time there was 3 of us and to be honest we were not blown away. It was still very good, we had a set menu. The starters were great, but the main courses were lacking a bit of cutting edge I thought. You can mark a good restaurant on consistency and from the two times I have been they are not quite there. Still very good however. But not 5/5 in my book. Final point does anyone else think the name sounds like a STD? Although you dont forget it!

Really fabulous charming place) This is my fave place in Leeds, possibly even Northern England. Great food and lovely atmosphere, really attentive Staff and great qualty food. Quite pricey but worth it for a special evening or an event. A little tricky to find as kind of hidden away... The lunch buffet is always a hit, especially on a Sunday but please book in advance.

Great place for a family of veggies! Never been here on an evening, but been a couple of times on Sunday afternoons for the buffet. Great value for money, gorgeous food and a great atmosphere. We have been both times with another couple who go regularly, and even though we have 5 kids between us it still feels relaxed. I have to say the staff are fantastic with the kids. Food wise it's as good a Thai as I've been to (although there's a distinct lack of cashew nuts in any of the dishes!). Around 3-4 main dishes available for veggies as part of the buffet, and lots of starters such as tofu kebabs, tempura battered veg, and some amazing little rice cakes with peanut sauce. Will definately be goinh back again, regularly I would say. Just make sure you book if going to the Sunday buffet, as it can get quite busy.

Wow what a truly wonderful place. Really, and honestly I do mean this. No sarcasm or anything that isn't utterly sincere. An honest testament to the value of Yelp, as it was on the basis of these afore given recommendations that me and a couple of the girlies decided to dine. The other was on the reputation of another friend as to how well Chaophraya catered for vegetarians, of which we had one with us. The veggie is one of my besties, so it's important that she eats as well as the rest of us meat eating folk; it's awful when a place gets rave reviews, and you want to share with your friends, but when you get there you realise they can't eat most of the things on the menu. Not the case here. I remembered on Rowena's profile she put the Thai Green Curry down as her Last Meal on Earth, so I offered up this recommendation to the veggie, and I had the chicken version of the same dish. YUM! This really has set the bar for Thai Green Curry, as in so many places it is often done to ill effect. Not here, twas gorgeous. Excellent call. I haven't even mentioned the absolutely charming, welcoming, warm and friendly staff, who were phenomenal with our ordering, especially with vegetarians and allergy sufferers and the like. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, fabulous. The restaurant itself is decadent and opulent, without being the least bit tacky. A perfect place for couples when the day turns to evening, and I will be continuing the recommendations to all looking for a gorgeous meal, in a beautiful restaurant, with exceptional staff.

This restaurant offers one of the finest dining experiences in Leeds. The first thing to hit you is the beautiful decor. As you ascend the steps leading to the doors there are beautiful water features, plants and buddhas around the entrance. As you walk in there is a lovely reception area by the bar where the decorative theme continues, and carries on throughout the restaurant. The staff are all traditionally dressed and wonderfully polite and the service is very efficient. You are seen to with care, and never over or underlooked. The food itself is absolutely exquisite. My personal favourite is thai food, so I suppose I would be rather biased, but I have never in all the times I have visited Chaophraya, ever been disappointed. So much so, that I always eat the same thing: Gang Kiew Wan (Thai Green Curry) and Coconut Rice. It is phenomenal! The whole dish is infused with so much flavour your mouth is literally watering as you eat. This combined with the whole atmosphere of the restaurant is simply divine. If you are looking for a special dining experience this is one of the most premier places to eat out in Leeds - but book early, they are rather popular!
